Who We Are
Molla Pharm was founded by researchers at the University of Manchester and clinicans at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust. We are pioneering new treatments for endometriosis and other complex medical conditions by developing next-generation therapeutic solutions.
Our mission is to empower patients and healthcare professionals with effective treatments that improve recovery and prevent disease recurrence. With a team of passionate experts in medical research and pharmaceutical technology, we are committed to transforming patient care in the field of women’s health.

Endometriosis Recurrence: A Lingering Challenge
Endometriosis is a chronic condition affecting an estimated 190 million people of child-bearing age worldwide. In endometriosis, cells similar to the womb lining (endometrium) grow elsewhere, often on or around the reproductive organs in the pelvis or abdomen. These cells trigger internal bleeding, inflammation and scarring causing many long lasting symptoms including debilitating pain and difficulties in getting pregnant.
Endometriosis and its symptoms are managed through surgery and a range of medicines, mainly contraceptives or pain relief. Even after surgery, 30-50% of women experience symptom recurrence within five years, often requiring repeat procedures.
Current post-surgical treatments are not always effective, impacting patients quality of life. Once treatments are stopped the symptoms often return and the patient need further interventions and care, placing a burden on our healthcare systems.
Our Solution
Our new local drug delivery system for endometriosis sufferers can be tailored to suit individual needs. These hydrogels (water-based, jelly-like materials) are made from natural amino acids (peptides) similar to those found in human tissues. They can be injected or sprayed and crucially can stick where applied during surgery for controlled delivery of poorly soluble drugs to disease sites.
Our peptide hydrogel system is not currently on the market but with our promising results, it is on the road towards clinical use.

Additional Benefits
Safety Profile
Our hydrogel breaks down overtime and is made of a non-toxic material that is safe to apply. It is also 100% ethical as it is animal-free and chemically defined with no batch variability.
Easy to use
With a simple and fast application, the hydrogel is suitable for use in routine endoscopic procedures. Also, it is a low dose, local release product that can be used as a one-off treatment, which alleviates the need for patients to repeatedly take medicine.
Improves Health
Our preclinical studies show the hydrogel to be effective at minimising endometriosis pain symptoms, whilst providing options for patients who wish to become pregnant.
Applications
An effective treatment would be game-changing for the millions who suffer with endometriosis (a similar number to those affected by diabetes). Potential customers of our healthcare technology include the NHS, Department of Health, private clinics for endometriosis patients as well as healthcare insurance providers. It is targeted at the patients themselves, endometriosis support/ patient advocacy groups and those involved in the clinical care pathway: healthcare professionals and gynaecology consultants/ specialists.
Entry into the current endometriosis market, estimated to grow to $2.7 billion in 2029 (Global Data Reports, 2021), would address the huge unmet clinical need, especially where fertility is prioritised.
For Patients
Molla Pharm’s hydrogel therapy offers women a new level of hope and relief, with fewer symptoms, a reduced need for repeat surgeries, and an overall improvement in their daily well-being.
For Healthcare Providers
Surgeons benefit from a treatment that integrates easily into existing surgical workflows, enhancing patient recovery while providing them with a higher standard of care. This not only improves surgical outcomes but also increases patient satisfaction and reduces the likelihood of future interventions.
For the Healthcare System
By reducing the need for repeat surgeries and minimising complications , our therapy contributes to lower healthcare costs and more efficient use of medical resources.
